TikTok: Grow Your Followers Using Movie Clips

There don’t seem to be any rules when it comes to using copyrighted material on TikTok and other social media platforms, at least in short form. One way to grow your followers is to find movie clips that fit your brand message. You can find movie clips from various sources including YouTube, Vimeo, and from the studios themselves who often release promotional material.

In this movie clip from Top Gun: Maverick posted on Instagram and TikTok, Tom Cruise reveals that devilish expression that only he is known for. It’s a moment when he can break a speed record but his commanding officers told him not to. The message of the video is “I’m not stopping now.” It’s a really good motivational image for those of us who want to push our limits.

A word of advice though for anyone using copyrighted material: Always give credit to the author when possible. In most cases, if a company or individual finds you using their material they will likely issue a cease and desist order, in which case you just need to take it down. However, if it’s discovered that money has been made using copyrighted material you could be sued for damages.
